AEW Hot Takes is back, and this time we're diving into one of the biggest questions coming out of AEW Dynamite: Is Mark Briscoe truly AEW World Championship material?
After an incredible episode of Dynamite featuring MJF, Mark Briscoe, Will Ospreay, RUSH, Mercedes Moné, and more, I've got some opinions that not everyone is going to agree with. We'll discuss Mark Briscoe's rise in AEW, whether he belongs in the world title picture, MJF's current championship run, the Owen Hart Tournament, and several other talking points that have the wrestling world buzzing.
This isn't a review—it's a hot takes discussion. Some of these opinions may be popular, some may be controversial, but they're all honest reactions to one of the most talked-about episodes of AEW Dynamite in recent memory.
Do you think Mark Briscoe is championship material? Let me know in the comments. If you enjoy wrestling discussions, AEW analysis, and hot takes from around the wrestling world, make sure to subscribe and join the conversation.

WWE fanboy here that you are watching in real time become an AEW Sicko. I've got some hot takes from Wednesday Night Dynamite. Let's go. We've got Cardmichael saying hot take. MJF is the only reason to watch AEW. Well, Cardmichael, a couple months ago, I probably would have been like, yeah, I know what you mean. But now, now after watching two dynamites, I gotta say there's more than just MJF. He's still great and amazing and awesome, but I'm liking the Jet, I'm liking Tecla, I'm liking the Dogs, I'm liking Osprey, I'm liking Leo Rush. I know the Hurt business is around somewhere. I like them, but like I'm not even gonna include them because they weren't on Dynamite. There was multiple good things for me to latch on to. So Carmichael, maybe join me on a Wednesday night live stream and you can watch it with me. Sometimes, sometimes you just need a buddy to watch something with for you to kind of like catch on, catch what they're what they're seeing. That lemur says speedball versus Kevin Knight slapped. The final spot was nasty. Yeah, the final spot was a little nasty. Mistakes happen, but like, ooh, just glad everybody's all right. But yes, speedball Kevin Knight actually really enjoyed it. Don't like that Kevin Knight joined Don Callis, and I do like Don Callis, but the jury's still out. Maybe it'll be the maybe it'll be the greatest pairing of all time. I just feel like Kevin Knight doesn't need it. From the little that I've seen of the guy, he feel I feel like he does have the charisma to stand on his own, but the match itself was good. Not a big speedball fan, but he does impress me with his in workability. So I'm uh in-ring ability. I'm I'm like I did like it. I didn't like it. Seven Night Samurai says, did not think Mercedes Monet was coming back. You know what I like about Mercedes Monet coming back? The fact that she just came back on an episode of Dynamite. We didn't have to wait to a giant pay-per-view, we just did it. I am so sick of trying to just prolong everything. If the moment's right, if the opportunity is there, just pull the trigger. We got a good memorable shock on a random episode of Dynamite, so it kind of tells you that you need to make sure you tune in for dynamite because you don't know. A huge return could happen on any given on any given Wednesday. And I like that. Kid Wilkes says there's predictable, and then there's Mercedes Monet being the wild card and winning the Owen Hart for the second year in a row and winning the WWE or the AEW, excuse me, AEW women's world title. Okay, so I think you're saying that her being in the tournament is just a little too predictable for you. So I am all about, I am all about swerves and and crazy story beats, you know, go right when you should have gone left. But you know, sometimes, sometimes the most predictable thing, the most logical thing, well, you know, it's predictable for a reason because it just makes all the sense in the world. I wouldn't see it as a bad thing to to put the belt on Mercedes Monet. However, I do like Tecla, so like I kind of don't want Tecla to lose the title because like I just absolutely loved what she did on Wednesday. But but Mercedes Monet, I think, is a you know, I think it would she would be a good flag bearer for for the women's title. So while yeah, it it it probably is predictable, even I can see it. Someone who's been watching Dynamite for two weeks, I could see it, but I don't see a problem with it. But but maybe that's because I've always been a big Sasha Banks fan. So maybe my personal feeling for for Mercedes is clouding my judgment. But sometimes the most predictable answer is the is the right answer. Money on Repeat says WWE has some cooking to do. And ASAP, yeah, WWE, not triple A, because Triple A is doing just fine. But WWE definitely like there's some there are some bright spots. I'm not gonna say that WWE sucks. I'm still a big WWE fan. Like they there are some bright spots. I like the bloodline, I know, not cool, but and and I actually liked I liked Trick Williams, Sami Zayn, and the gingerbread man. So like maybe I'm part of the problem, right? But but that said, like the the stuff with WWE, it's either undercooked or overcooked, they're they're never just right. Overtime 1K says Mark Briscoe deserves the belt. I said on my my review yesterday that I I was not really feeling Mark Briscoe, but when he did that promo, it really got to know, I really got to know him on a very personal level, it felt. And I I do kind of want to see him with the belt, even if it's like two or three years from now. I almost want him to win it for his brother at this point. And so, like, good job, Mark Briscoe getting getting this guy who didn't know you, wanting you as a champion. Thesha says Mercedes adds not much value to AEW and Tony Khan should save on that eight-figure investment that he has placed on the CEO. Well, you know, I I don't agree with you. From what I gathered from my live stream, it seemed like a lot of people were actually enjoying Mercedes Monet 2. So, like, AEW fans were enjoying her, and WWE fans are enjoying her or looking forward to what we see. So, like, you're more than welcome to your opinion, but just because you don't like somebody doesn't necessarily mean they're not worth they're not worth it. You know, I don't like Brock Lesnar in WWE, but I can see value in him. I I wish I would never see him wrestle again, but at the same time, I can I can objectively see value in him. So maybe just take a step back and and then really, really think. Is is Sasha Banks or Mercedes Monet worth nothing? Or is she worth a lot even if you don't like her? Just a suggestion. I love AEW Wrestling. Says I love how great AEW was with limiting ads on the men's title match on AEW. Honestly, AEW's really good at just limiting ads in general. They have long matches, right? They have really long matches in AEW and they fly by. Like for real, I will watch an AEW match go 30 minutes, 30 minutes, and it feels like 10. But in WWE, I'll watch a 20-minute match that feels like 45 minutes and not a good 45 minutes. And I think it's pacing, it's ads, it's getting right to the next thing, going just consistently moving. Like AEW is like a shark, it's always moving while while WWE is like, I don't even know. It's one of those, it's it's one of those turtles at the bottom of the ocean that just it's tongue out and just waits, waits for the prey to come. And I just don't that that's what that's what WWE is to me. Woo, good thing I know. Like, do you guys want me to do scripts? Because if I do a script, I will never come up with analogies like that. Teddy Boyd Ward says, difference between SmackDown and Dynamite. We saw Gunther come out at 10.51, and we know we'll see Paul LeVec's name in eight minutes. Osprey came out at 9.52, and it was supposed to be over at 10. Yeah, okay, I get what you're saying, and you are absolutely right here. There was like, you know that SmackDown is just gonna end at a certain point. And I don't even blame, I don't even blame WWE for that, but an added bonus of of AEW is that so about I think I think there's a five-minute overrun with TBS shows, right? Or TNT shows. So it was it was like 9 58. So I'm like, okay, we got seven minutes left. And then at 10 05, the match kept going. We went another 14 minutes. I had no idea when this match was gonna end, and that added to my watching a pleasure. That added to the experience because now I just like after five minutes of the match just kept going, I just didn't know if it was ever gonna end. And that was that was good because I didn't know what to expect next. Pharaoh Ven says it's just not entertaining. What's not entertaining? AEW as a whole, like can you give me something specific? It's okay not to like AEW, it really is. But if you're gonna comment on a on a post that is like, give me AEW hot takes, then tell me what's not entertaining. Do you do you what don't you like about AEW? And like I said, like it's not even me going to attack you, just give me something like, oh, like you're a big stupid face. Yeah, I how am I supposed to work with that? Maybe I am a big stupid face, but why am I a stupid face? Tell me why I'm a stupid face and why AEW isn't entertaining. Because, like, for me, it I was entertained, I was sports entertained, even. I liked the character work, I liked the the storylines, I liked the craziness, I liked so much more than just the wrestling. I love AEW wrestling. Says I just love how after a uh double or nothing, more people are being AEW fans. It's awesome to see. Well, you know, right here. Bob T V NYC says working champ. So I know Darby Allen's gonna be gonna be like you know, Harold as a fighting champion, but I think MJF as a champion is working, working just as hard. Now, he's not putting his body on the line as much as Darby did, but he's showing up every week, multiple segments. I am liking what he's doing. Plus, he is wrestling uh here and there as well. So working champ is right, both for Darby and MJF, just different. Yeah, right, my guy says, I wish they were pushing someone other than Mark Briscoe. I'm a fan of Mark, but fresh off of a double or nothing momentum, they should have had a better opponent lined up. I could see that. Even though I said, Oh, I kind of want to see what we can do with this guy, he does seem like a mid-card guy, but Roosh, also mid-card guy. So I think I think we just got some like mid-card challengers until we get to the main event, which is probably the guy who wins the Owen Hart, the Owen Hart tournament. So I'm guessing Will Ospreay is the next big the big thing. And I I I totally see where you're coming from. It hasn't really affected me though. I'm okay with I'm okay with seeing like all these guys because it just feels like maybe there's not like one giant threat for MJF, but it does seem like he's fending off threats from all around him. So maybe that's why it's kind of cool. So instead of fighting one giant chicken, he's fighting a hundred little chickens. That lemur says, Hey Chop, you mentioned before that you prefer shorter matches to allow more story segments on TV time and longer matches pay per views. With the pace AEW goes, do you think they have a good balance, or would you prefer more shorter matches for more story segments? That's a good question. That's a good question. I honestly am enjoying what I'm seeing with AEW, and I think I did mention it earlier, but like there's like half-hour matches, and they don't they're not feeling that way. So maybe it's not that I was having a problem with the matches, maybe I was just having a problem with the pacing, the advertisements, and stuff like that, and just the filler. You know, I guess I don't need to see a shot of the arena three times. I don't need to know about club WWE throughout the entire show. I don't need to know, I don't need to see them walking in the building. So maybe it's maybe it's just a pacing thing. Luke Wei says, every single effing week we get banger shows, we're so spoiled. You know what? You guys are kind of spoiled right now, and that's a good thing. Appreciate this, appreciate this. We were spoiled during the Attitude Era, we were spoiled during Ruthless Aggression, and then one day we weren't anymore, and we didn't realize it. We didn't realize it until it was too late. The duelist says, What a heck of a show! Heck of a show indeed. I gave it a nine out of ten. And then we got Captain Stark says, MJF is a better wrestler than Ric Flair in his prime. I don't think you can really compare them at this point because Ric Flair in his prime, what like the 70s and 80s? It's such a different era of wrestling that it's like almost you can't compare them. Now, if you want to say who's the better heel, who can get more heat, that's different. But when it comes to wrestling, there's just some things Ric Flair just couldn't do, and JemJF has the liberty of being able to do because of just how things are nowadays. Now, if you want to compare him to Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins or maybe Shawn Michaels, Triple H, but like for the most part, I think it's just unfair to compare today's wrestler to anybody like when their prime was 1985 or lower. And Esther 52527 says naha take, but I just love that WrestleChop is doing AEW videos. I'm enjoying myself. And if you want me to continue doing AEW videos or more AEW videos, then help me out and get these videos seen by other siccos. Each video so far has hit about 5,000 views. And I'll tell you, if that continues, then I will continue doing AEW videos for real because I will see that there is a there is a need for the videos because that's what this channel is. This channel is for the people. And if the people want AEW videos, well, then I'll give them AEW videos, and I can see that by the metrics, the analytics, and all that stuff, but just the view count. So make sure that people are watching these videos, your friends, your Reddit threads, or whatever, and then I will continue. So, boys, girls, thank you very much for joining me. See you bye.
